Please help me, help McKenzie and other young stroke thrivers learn that there are no limits in what they can achieve! Let's raise as much money as possible for such a good cause!
You can help McKenzie by simply sponsoring her and her family to experience an unforgettable adventurous holiday after a strenuous long year, with a trip to the breath-taking beautiful and scenic Wanaka! Part of the adventure will include flights, accommodation, Cadrona Ski passes and Adaptive ski/ snowboarding lessons for McKenzie. Learning how to ski/ snowboard and overcome new obstacles from her stroke will help teach McKenzie that there are no limits in what she can achieve! What a fun filled adventure for McKenzie after such a tough year!

Adaptive Snow Sports
Having never been involved with any disabled sports/ group or activities and being one to avoid typecasting myself as part of the ‘disabled’ world, I took a leap of faith and joined the very helpful and supportive ‘Cardrona Alpine Resort Adaptive Programme’ in August 2011- a decision I wish I had made a very long time ago! To help other Young Stroke Survivors learn that there are no limits in what they can achieve while getting back into the great outdoors, all remaining donations raised for McKenzie, will go towards ‘Adaptive Snow Sports’ to fund one on one ski/ snow board lessons, hire equipment, the facilities and volunteers of Cardrona Alpine Resort, Snow Farm, The Remarkables, Mt Ruapehu (Whakapapa and Turoa), Mt Hutt and Snowplanet. As the fundraised amount grows we will be able to identify exactly where the money will be spent to be of most benefit.
Adaptive Snow Sports is about adapting equipment and lessons and providing accessible support systems to allow people with a wide range of disabilities to take to the snow and experience the freedom of snow sports. The opportunity to ski and snowboard wouldn’t be a reality without the patience, support, knowledge and encouragement of each individual staff and volunteer/ ‘snow buddy’ which the programme is largely reliant on.
My ultimate dream would be to create Outdoor Activity Scholarships for Young Stroke Thrivers NZ. Everything from Cricket, Basketball, Netball, Swimming, Kitesurfing and so on. Encouraging Young Stroke Survivors to live an active life and having fun while doing it! Less time in the gym and more time having fun. Because we have one less functional side including our arms/ legs/ feet we need to learn a new method on how to achieve things. We need one on one lessons to learn how to adapt to these sports.
